Jo Willaert, the immediate past president of the Federation of European Risk Management Associations (FERMA), has passed away, the organization announced in a statement. Mr. Willaert was FERMA president from 2015 to 2019, before handing the leadership of the organization to the current president, Dirk Wegener.
Guy Carpenter has launched a marine and energy mutual, agency, and captive reinsurance solutions practice and appointed Demian Smith as managing director to lead the new practice. Mr. Smith will report to Jim Summers, global head of Marine & Energy Specialty and deputy CEO of Global Specialties at Guy Carpenter.
Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance (TDCI) Commissioner Hodgen Mainda is stepping down from his position on November 13. In his resignation letter to Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee, Mr. Mainda said that he is leaving to move to the private sector and to spend more time with his family.
Theresa Carpenter and Amit Hapani have joined Hylant Global Captive Solutions. Ms. Carpenter joins Hylant as senior captive consultant and manager, while Mr. Hapani joins as a chartered accountant. The practice has undergone a rebranding and has experienced extensive growth, due in part to the global COVID-19 pandemic.
The Vermont Captive Insurance Association (VCIA) has named Stephanie J. Mapes, director of the Burlington, Vermont-based law firm Paul Frank + Collins, chair of the association's board. Ms. Mapes has served on the VCIA's board of directors since 2018 and is a long-standing VCIA member.
