The Captive Insurance Companies Association (CICA) has announced the three finalist teams in its "Using Captive Insurance Solutions To Address Coverage Gaps" student essay contest.

The three finalist teams and their essay scenarios are Katie Strohl and Blake Babec of Butler University, Craft Breweries Association; Connor Thomson and Nicholas Vagnozzi of Saint Joseph's University, Craft Breweries Association; and Matia Daskalos and Vincent Palmieri of Temple University, American Cannabis Association.

The CICA essay contest for college risk management and insurance students is sponsored by Strategic Risk Solutions (SRS).

For the CICA student essay contest, two-person teams are asked to describe how and why a captive insurance company could provide a cost-effective means of covering risks. The three finalist teams will now work with a mentor from SRS to revise and enhance their essays before a final round of judging determines first, second, and third place.

Winners will be announced during the Monday morning general session of the CICA International Conference, which is being held March 6–8 in Tucson, Arizona. The finalist teams will also present their case studies during an education session during the conference.

"We are looking forward to seeing the finalist teams give their presentations at the conference this year," CICA President Dan Towle said in a statement. "They have done excellent work, and we look forward to having them share their ideas in person."
