Mr. Herbers served as Pinnacle's managing principal from 2008 to 2024, leading the firm's actuarial practice for more than 16 years. His work focuses on loss reserving and funding studies across both traditional insurers and alternative risk structures, including policyholder-owned group captives, large deductible programs, self-insured entities, and public entity pools.
He brings broad actuarial expertise across all property and casualty lines, with extensive experience advising captive insurance companies and other alternative market participants. Mr. Herbers regularly serves as an appointed actuary or loss reserve specialist for domestic insurers, captives, and self-insured organizations, and frequently presents to boards and executive committees on financial reporting of unpaid claims liabilities.
In addition, Mr. Herbers advises large US construction management firms on self-insurance liabilities, with a focus on contractor wrap-up and subcontractor default (Subguard) programs. His work also includes feasibility studies for new captive formations, loss funding analyses for micro-captives, and data management support for risk retention groups.
