Renea Louie To Chair CICA's 2022–23 Board of Directors

Renea Louie, chief operations officer of Pro Group Captive Management Services, will chair the board of directors of the Captive Insurance Companies Association (CICA).

At Pro Group, Ms. Louie manages day-to-day operations as well as marketing, underwriting, accounting, audit, risk management, client and regulator relations, government relations, client acquisition and retention, regulatory compliance, and corporate communications. She has extensive experience and knowledge of the alternative risk transfer industry and has served on the CICA board for the past 4 years.

"It is an honor and privilege to serve as CICA's 2022–2023 board chair," Ms. Louie said in a statement. "CICA's strength stems from our members, leadership, and staff who are all passionate in serving the industry to create innovation, solutions and progress. The global pandemic has revealed to a much larger universe of business owners the power of captives and the coming years will bring large growth for the industry.

"With growth comes new challenges, and CICA remains committed to providing the education, insights, perspectives, and best practices in all facets of captive operations, guidance, and leadership needed to thrive," she said.

In addition to Ms. Louie, CICA's board elected Nicholas Hentges, CEO of Captive Resources, as vice-chair and Mary Ellen Moriarty, vice president for property and casualty (P&C) at Educational and Institutional Insurance Administrators, Inc., as secretary/treasurer. Lance Abbott of BevCap Management, LLC, is the immediate past chair.

Returning CICA board members include Courtney Claflin, executive director of captive programs at the University of California, Office of the President; Colin Donovan, president of STICO Mutual Insurance Company at Risk Retention Group; Deyna Feng, director of captive programs at Cummins Risk International; Heather McClure, chief risk adviser, US Healthcare Practice, at Aon; Michael Scott, attorney at the Law Office of Allison and Mosby-Scott; and Michael Zuckerman, associate professor at Temple University.

CICA also elected Udo Kappes, head of P&C, employee lines, and reinsurance at Airbus Insurance Risk Management, to the organization's board. Mr. Kappes's experience includes positions at the German property insurance association Verband der Sachversicherer and serving as an in-house insurance broker at Daimler Chrysler. At Airbus, Mr. Kappes is responsible for the group-wide risk transfer of the company's global property, liability, employee, and financial lines risks and for reinsurance solutions. He also chairs the board of the European Captive Insurance and Reinsurance Owners' Association.

Prabal Lakhanpal, vice president of Spring Consulting Group, who chairs CICA's NEXTGen Young and New Professionals Committee, begins his appointed term on CICA's board. He has been in the captive insurance industry since 2015, working on strategic and innovative alternative funding initiatives related to employee benefits and P&C programs. Before joining Spring, Mr. Lakhanpal worked in various finance and operational roles worldwide.
