The Captive Insurance Council of the District of Columbia Inc. (CIC-DC) has rescheduled its annual conference for October 27.

The new conference, unlike the originally planned May conference that was canceled in late March due to the COVID-19 pandemic, will be held online.

Like the canceled conference, the upcoming conference will include a wide array of outside captive insurance experts and captive regulators, including Dana Sheppard, associate commissioner of the District of Columbia Department of Insurance, Securities, and Banking, and Sean O'Donnell, the DC Department of Insurance's director of financial examination.

Conference sessions include a DC captive regulatory update, a captive tax update, opportunities for risk financing in the hardening market, and trends in the reinsurance market. More information about the conference, including registration forms, can be obtained online at the CIC-DC website, or by calling (888) 302–4232.

The District of Columbia is one of the largest domestic captive insurance domiciles. At the end of 2019, the District of Columbia had 148 captive insurance companies, with those captives generating $1.7 billion in gross written premiums.
