Mr. McElhiney is the president of EWI Risk Services, Inc., a reinsurance intermediary based in Dallas, and also serves as president and board member of Tall Pines Insurance Company of Vermont.
His insurance industry experience has spanned over 2 decades with groups including Fireman's Fund, TIG, Argonaut Group, and Overseas Partners US Reinsurance Company. He has served in the roles of chief financial officer, corporate treasurer, and ceded reinsurance executive.
He has served on the board of directors of Overseas Partners US Reinsurance Corporation and has worked closely with various departments of insurance, capital markets firms, and major rating agencies at various companies.
While at Fireman's Fund, he received a Chairman's Award for work done in creating a global reinsurance credit risk rating model and represented the company on various task forces (Catastrophe Management and Security Committees) involving the parent company, Allianz A.G., and all global affiliates.
He was elected to the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) Society's Board of Governors in 2007 for the Texas region. He is a past president and chairman of the International CPCU Society, an association of nearly 28,000 credentialed insurance professionals who promote excellence through ethical behavior and continuing education. He also provides executive officer oversight to the CPCU Society's Audit Committee.
He is past chair of the Vermont Captive Insurance Association and is the treasurer of NASCO, a public and private sector trade coalition. He is immediate past chair of the Captive Insurance Companies Association.
Mr. McElhiney has an M.B.A. and a bachelor of science degree, cum laude, from the University of Southern California. In addition to CPCU, the premier designation in the insurance industry, he also holds the ARe (Associate in Reinsurance) and AIAF (Associate in Insurance Accounting and Finance) designations and has been an instructor with the Insurance Education Association.
He served on the Creditors Committee of the English & American Insurance Company (UK) representing US insurance creditors.
He is the author of a paper on reinsurance commutations (adopted by the AICPCU as course material) and articles published by the CPCU Society and Captive Review magazine on reinsurance and capital market issues affecting the insurance industry.
