The Vermont Captive Insurance Association (VCIA) has shared details about its 2020 annual conference, a virtual gathering this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 2020 VCIA Virtual Annual Conference will be held August 11–13, with a virtual setting the association says will be similar to a live event. The online gathering will offer both prerecorded and live presentations as well as areas where attendees can arrange meetings and ask questions.

With a number of captive insurance association conferences canceled or postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year's 35th annual VCIA meeting will be the first captive event since the pandemic shutdown, according to the VCIA.

Dr. Robert Hartwig, clinical associate professor of finance and director of the Risk and Uncertainty Management Center in the Darla Moore School of Business at the University of South Carolina, will be the conference's keynote speaker. Dr. Hartwig is a former president and economist for the Insurance Information Institute.

In addition to the presentations—for which attendees will be able to earn professional education credits—there will be opportunities to visit with exhibitors in a virtual exhibit hall and chat with other attendees and presenters in online networking lounges. The conference's resource center will provide materials from educational sessions, the captive insurance industry press, and more, and a dedicated help desk will be available to answer attendees' questions and help get them where they want to go.

In addition to live concurrent sessions, attendees will be able to stream alternative sessions on demand at times that are more convenient, allowing access to more sessions than ever before, the VCIA said. Attendees can step in and out of the conference as they choose over the 3 days and can ask panelists questions in real time or after the conference.

In the virtual exhibit hall, attendees will be able to collect exhibitors' materials and make introductions through a live chat function. Meanwhile, the captive lounge will provide a forum for group or private conversations.

Registration for the 2020 VCIA Virtual Annual Conference can be found on the VCIA's website.
