The Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) has rehired veteran captive specialist Robert Rudnai, who will be responsible for the licensing and monitoring of Texas captive insurance companies, as well as advising businesses of the potential of setting up a captive.

"I have been learning about and providing regulatory information to captives from the get-go. The challenge now is to do so as efficiently, consistently, and predictably as possible," Mr. Rudnai said in a TDI news release.

Earlier, when Mr. Rudnai worked for the TDI, he "evaluated captive insurance applications, met with prospective captive applicants and developed relationships with captive service providers," the TDI said.

Mr. Rudnai rejoined the TDI as captive insurance specialist after working in the insurance industry.

Currently, Texas has 76 captives, according to the TDI. In 2022, Texas captives generated $11.7 billion in gross written premiums.

Texas "is prepared for more growth," Mr. Rudnai said.
