The 2020 Rendez-Vous de Septembre (RVS) international reinsurance industry conference has been canceled due to uncertainties surrounding the global COVID-19 pandemic. The event had been scheduled for September 12–17 in Monaco and would have been the 64th such annual industry meeting.

The RVS annually brings together leading players from the global insurance, reinsurance, and brokerage markets, in addition to a large number of industry lawyers, banking advisers, and specialized journalists, a statement from the event's organizers said.

Nearly 3,000 people attend the conference to discuss issues associated with the reinsurance profession and to begin the annual negotiations leading to renewals of insurance and reinsurance treaties, the RVS organization said.

In the statement, Claude Tendil, president of the RVS, said, "Given the seriousness of the health crisis we are experiencing, the members of the RVS Association have unanimously decided to cancel the 2020 RVS. We have also chosen to make a donation of €100,000 to speed up scientific research in order to find a vaccine to combat COVID-19."

The next edition of the RVS will be held from September 11–16, 2021.

The RVS cancellation becomes one of many insurance industry gatherings canceled or postponed this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Among them have been the Captive Insurance Companies Association's 2020 International Conference, the Risk and Insurance Management Society's Annual Conference & Exhibition, the annual Airmic conference, and the Bermuda Captive Conference, which was rescheduled from June to September.
