With a hardening commercial insurance market, the past year wasn't just a busy one for new captive insurance company formations. On the tax front, 2020 was more mixed, panelists on a recent Strategic Risk Solutions webinar suggested, though there was significant captive tax activity.
Business Insurance will host this year's 30th World Captive Forum February 24–25 in a virtual setting. This year's program will feature more than 75 speakers participating in more than 25 sessions, including a look at how the captive insurance industry has changed over the World Captive Forum's 30 years.
The Captive Insurance Companies Association (CICA) continues to monitor the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and whether conditions will allow it to hold its International Conference in March 2021. The CICA conference is currently scheduled to be held in Scottsdale, Arizona. Infections are surging in the state, leading to increased restrictions.
The Montana Captive Insurance Association, Inc. (MCIA), is planning to hold this year's annual conference as an in-person event July 20–22 in Whitefish, Montana. The MCIA said its plan for an in-person event is "assuming improved public health conditions by that date will allow for a viable event."
The Vermont Captive Insurance Association will hold its annual members Legislative Day conference as an online event on January 27. The virtual event will include a Vermont Captive Insurance Division update and a presentation to the Vermont General Assembly. This year marks Vermont's 40th anniversary as a captive domicile.
