The Vermont Agency of Commerce and Community Development has named Brittany Nevins captive insurance economic development director. Ms. Nevins replaces Ian Davis, who left the position earlier this year to take a private sector position in the captive insurance industry.

As captive insurance economic development director, Ms. Nevins is responsible for the marketing and business development of Vermont's captive insurance industry. In the role, she will work closely with the state's Department of Financial Regulation and the Vermont Captive Insurance Association to strengthen the reputation of the Vermont captive insurance domicile.

She will advise Vermont's governor and the secretary of commerce on new captive insurance legislation and policy recommendations to ensure a beneficial business environment for the industry's expansion. Ms. Nevins will also work closely with Vermont's congressional delegation, monitoring policy pertaining to the regulation of captive insurance and related financial services industries.

Before joining the Vermont agency, Ms. Nevins worked in the fields of community and economic development in the nonprofit and governmental sectors serving technology, solar, health care, and child care industries. She has a background in regulatory systems and processes from her time with the State of Texas as a policy specialist for long-term care regulatory services.

She also worked in Austin, Texas, managing Travis County's Economic Incentive Program, which saw the county entering into a variety of economic incentive agreements to support businesses and further the county's comprehensive economic development goals.

Ms. Nevins received a master of arts degree in sustainable development with a concentration in policy advocacy and analysis from SIT Graduate Institute and a bachelor of arts degree in political science from the University of Vermont.
