Gold award trophy

The Vermont Captive Insurance Association (VCIA) presented two annual awards to captive insurance industry professionals during the group's virtual annual conference earlier this month.

The VCIA Industry Service Award was presented to Mike Meehan, principal at Milliman. The annual award's recipient is chosen by the VCIA's board of directors in recognition of a VCIA member who has provided significant support and made contributions to the overall vitality and general welfare of the captive insurance industry over time.

Mr. Meehan has more than 25 years' experience working with captive insurance companies and other alternative risk financing programs. He is an active participant in the captive insurance industry and a frequent speaker and author on captives and alternative risk financing.

He is also an active member on numerous captive domicile committees, including serving as a former board member and treasurer of the VCIA. Mr. Meehan currently sits on the VCIA's Conference Task Force, Membership & Marketing Committee, and Road Show Task Force.

This year's VCIA Captive Crusader Award was presented to Sandi Prescott, head of client service at Performa. The award's recipient is chosen each year by the staff of the VCIA. The award recognizes a member who has demonstrated commitment and dedication to the association, contributions to special projects beyond the call of duty, positive energy, enthusiasm, and consistent constructive support of the VCIA.

As head of client service at Performa, Ms. Prescott has primary responsibility for the firm's global client relationships. Before joining the captive insurance industry, Ms. Prescott was vice president and portfolio manager at a Vermont asset management company where she was responsible for more than $7 billion in institutional client assets.

Ms. Prescott has served on VCIA committees and has been an enthusiastic, thoughtful contributor to the association in many ways. She has served as a sounding board on issues related to the annual conference, membership, and marketing and has always been willing to provide perspective on the industry and constructive feedback and guidance. She served as conference chair for the 2018 VCIA annual conference.
