Stephanie Mapes To Chair Vermont Captive Insurance Association Board

The Vermont Captive Insurance Association (VCIA) has named Stephanie J. Mapes, director of the Burlington, Vermont-based law firm Paul Frank + Collins, chair of the association's board.

Ms. Mapes has served on the VCIA's board of directors since 2018 and is a long-standing VCIA member, including serving as chair of the association's conference and legislative committees.

Ms. Mapes has spent more than 30 years in the captive insurance industry. She is the immediate past president of Paul Frank + Collins and is the head of the firm's captive insurance team, which operates both domestically and in the London and Bermuda markets.

She has taught classes on captive insurance at Vermont Law School, on the faculty of the International Center for Captive Insurance Education (ICCIE), and at various captive insurance industry conferences. Ms. Mapes serves on a variety of community and professional boards, including the National Risk Retention Association's Government Affairs Committee and the ICCIE Curriculum Committee.

"Stephanie brings a stellar combination of experience, professionalism, common sense, and energy to our organization," VCIA President Rich Smith said in a statement. "I have known and worked with her from the beginning of my tenure at VCIA, and her expertise is invaluable. All of us at VCIA are excited to have her lead our organization."

Ms. Mapes, who will serve as VCIA chair until October 2021, takes the VCIA gavel from Jan Klodowski, vice president of Agri-Services Agency LLC, who served two terms as the organization's chair.

The VCIA board's leadership also includes Andrew Baillie of AES, vice chair; Dennis Silva of Cedar Consulting LLC, treasurer; Tracy Hassett of edHEALTH, secretary; Ms. Klodowski, immediate past chair. Other board members include Donna Blair, independent consultant; Lawrence Cook, Sedgwick; Jason Palmer, Willis Towers Watson; Wilda Seymour, University of Pennsylvania Health System and Franklin Casualty Insurance Company RRG; Anne Marie Towle, Hylant; and Derick White, Strategic Risk Solutions.

Established in 1985, the VCIA provides lobbying support on both the state and federal levels for more than 350 member organizations that range from Fortune 50 companies to nonprofit healthcare groups. In addition, it hosts professional education opportunities for the captive insurance industry.
