The North Carolina Captive Insurance Association (NCCIA) highlighted legislative advocacy efforts, conference expansion plans, and new industry support in its May 2026 newsletter.

NCCIA announced that First Citizens Bank joined the association as a key sponsor for its upcoming annual conference in Charlotte this August. The association said the sponsorship reflects continued momentum and growing recognition for the event and the captive insurance industry in North Carolina.

The newsletter noted that First Citizens' involvement will extend beyond the conference itself. Andy Johnson will serve as the primary contact for members interested in connecting with the bank and learning more.

NCCIA also provided an update on legislative activity in North Carolina as the general assembly returned to session. According to the association, it is monitoring insurance-related bills and regulatory developments affecting the captive insurance sector.

The newsletter highlighted North Carolina House Bill 1086, which references captive insurance in connection with the childcare sector. NCCIA said it supports the legislation and encouraged members to review the bill summary for additional information.

In Washington, DC, Diana Hardy of RH CPAs met with staff from Senator Ted Budd and Representatives Addison McDowell and Tim Moore to discuss captive-related legislation and raise awareness of industry priorities at the federal level, according to the newsletter.

The association also shared updates on preparations for its annual conference, which will feature new presenters, sponsors, and industry topics, reflecting continued growth in North Carolina's captive insurance market. NCCIA said attendees can expect additional networking opportunities, including a new social event.

Exhibitor opportunities remain available for the conference, the association said, as interest continues to build ahead of the August event in Charlotte.

The newsletter also pointed to North Carolina's role in several closely watched US Senate and House races during the upcoming election cycle, noting that election outcomes could influence the broader business and regulatory landscape affecting the captive insurance industry.
