The National Risk Retention Association (NRRA) will hold its 2023 National Conference November 13–15 at the Sofitel Chicago Magnificent Mile Hotel.

The theme of this year's NRRA conference is "Innovating and Advocating: NRRA 2023."

Conference sessions include "The Nexus between Claims Handling and Bad Faith and the Bottom Line," "Reinsurance Cost Containment and Other Challenges," and "Risk-Based Capital Impact on Finance and Investments."

The conference also will examine risk retention group (RRG) legislative updates in domiciles such as Florida and Nevada and will feature a government affairs and roundtable wrap-up session titled, "Where Is the Law Going Now That RRGs Are Sitting at the Adults' Table?"

Risk retention groups were authorized under legislation first passed by Congress in 1981, which allowed RRGs to provide product liability and completed operations coverage to member-owners throughout the United States. In 1986, the law was expanded to allow RRGs to offer all casualty coverages—except workers compensation—to policyholders.

Currently, there are 243 RRGs, according to The Risk Retention Reporter.
