The Hawaii Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs, Insurance Division, Captive Branch, has provided new details about where Hawaii-domiciled captive insurance companies' parents are located and the parents' industries.

Hawaii had 262 captives at the end of June 2023, with 174 captive owners in western US states, 26 in central US states, and 20 in eastern US states. In addition, 41 captive insurance company owners were in the Asia/Pacific region, and 1 owner was in Europe.

By industry, 71 captive owners are in the construction/real estate industry, 54 are in telecommunications and manufacturing, 43 are in financial services, 34 are in the transportation and energy industry, 31 are in retail and other services, and 29 are in the healthcare field.

Hawaii's count of 262 captives at the end of June is up from 255 at the end of 2022 and 251 at the end of 2021.
