Zurich North America Appoints Matthew Moore as Head of Group Captives

Zurich North America announced on LinkedIn that Matthew Moore, ARM, has joined the company as executive vice president, head of group captives, effective September 29, 2025.
According to the announcement, Mr. Moore will be based in Chicago and will report to Alex Wells, executive vice president and head of US middle market. Mr. Wells commented in Zurich's announcement: "Matt's ability to drive growth, build trusted relationships and lead high-performing teams positions him exceptionally well to lead our Group Captives business forward."
Mr. Moore brings nearly 17 years of experience from The Hartford, where he advanced through a series of leadership roles. Most recently, he served as head of captives, overseeing underwriting and strategic growth for captive programs from 2023 to 2025. Prior to that, he was practice leader for loss sensitive business in the Midwest for more than 6 years, following earlier positions as senior underwriter, assistant director of finance, and financial analyst. His career began in The Hartford's Financial Leadership Development Program, giving him broad exposure to both underwriting and finance functions.
This appointment follows a leadership change earlier in 2025, when former group captives head Dawn Hiestand departed Zurich to join Artex Risk Solutions as chief underwriting officer and head of captives, according to Business Insurance.
