The Vermont Captive Insurance Association (VCIA) opened its 40th anniversary conference today in Burlington with the largest turnout since the pandemic. More than 1,100 captive insurance professionals representing 45 US states and 8 countries are participating, including over 300 first-time attendees and more than 350 captive owners.

"This conference has been 11 months in the making, and our staff, Board, and volunteers have given it their all for it. We're excited now to share the experience with membership and attendees," Kevin Mead, VCIA CEO, said.

The event is being held at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Burlington and will run through Wednesday. Known globally for its educational content and networking opportunities, the VCIA Annual Conference attracts both Fortune 500 companies and small businesses. This year's program features sessions on topics including climate change, social inflation, and artificial intelligence, with continuing professional education (CPE), Vermont continuing legal education (CLE), and International Center for Captive Insurance Education (ICCIE) professional credits available for most sessions.

Special events mark the anniversary, including a Monday evening gathering at the Hula Lakeside facility and Wednesday's closing reception at Hotel Vermont. The conference will also include the announcement of the next VCIA president along with updates on the association's strategic plan, road map, and deliverables.

Founded in 1985, VCIA is the world's largest captive membership association, with more than 400 member organizations. It provides lobbying support at the state and federal levels, educational programming, and opportunities for collaboration within the Vermont captive insurance community.
