The Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance (TDCI) has promoted Bryant Cummings to director of insurance examinations within the Division of Insurance.

Mr. Cummings, a 23-year department veteran, will lead a team of 12 examiners tasked with reviewing insurers' financial and operational records for compliance with Tennessee law and the National Association of Insurance Commissioners' regulatory standards. He succeeds Joy Little, who recently retired.

"Bryant has a proven track record of helping ensure that companies' financial and operating conditions remain in compliance with state laws, rules, and regulations," Bill Huddleston, assistant commissioner for the Division of Insurance, said. "In his new leadership role, I am confident that Bryant's expertise, knowledge, and dedication will continue to help our department's reputation as a leader among state regulators grow among other states … as well as the insurance market."

Mr. Cummings began his TDCI career in 2002 as a financial institutions examiner and most recently served as assistant director for insurance examinations. He holds degrees from Alcorn State University and the University of Memphis and is a Certified Financial Examiner through the Society of Financial Examiners. He also holds a Market Conduct Management designation from the Insurance Regulatory Examiners Society.

Tennessee currently has over 340,000 active licensed insurance producers, the highest number in state history. The Division of Insurance oversees both corporate and individual licensees, mediates consumer complaints, and provides public resources.

"Serving my fellow Tennesseans is an honor and privilege that I take seriously every day," Mr. Cummings said. "While this is a new role for me, I am confident that I will continue to fulfill our department's mission of 'Protecting Consumers, Empowering Professionals.'"
