TDCI Names Brittany Thompson Director of Internal Audit

The Tennessee Department of Commerce & Insurance (TDCI) has promoted Brittany Thompson to director of internal audit following the retirement of longtime director John G. Williams. Ms. Thompson has been with the department since 2013 and most recently served as auditor 4.
With nearly 15 years of experience in auditing and multiple professional certifications, Ms. Thompson will now lead a four-person audit team, overseeing compliance audits, internal investigations, and departmental risk assessments. She will also ensure adherence to the Financial Integrity Act and new standards from the Tennessee Department of Finance & Administration.
"During her career, Brittany has demonstrated that she has the knowledge, ability, and commitment to lead the way forward for her team and our department," TDCI Commissioner Carter Lawrence said. "I am proud that she will continue her career in state government here at TDCI by way of this promotion."
Ms. Thompson holds an master of business administration and a bachelor's degree in accounting from Middle Tennessee State University. She is also a Certified Internal Auditor and Certified Fraud Examiner.
"I am honored to step into the role of internal audit director. This opportunity allows me to continue to build on our agency's commitment to strong internal controls, ethical governance, and continuous improvement. I have been extremely fortunate to have served with a talented and hard-working team of audit professionals so far during my career," Ms. Thompson said. "I look forward to leading them in the years ahead."
Mr. Williams retired after a 41-year career in Tennessee state government.
