Sedgwick has launched a Carrier and Captive Solutions business focused on claims administration and other services for insurers, captive insurers, managing general agents (MGAs), managing general underwriters (MGUs), and other alternative risk organizations.

The new operation is led by Jason Rogers, managing director of Carrier and Captive Solutions, and includes more than 1,000 professionals working in areas including claims adjusting, client services, data and analytics, and operations.

The launch comes as the alternative risk market continues to expand. The US MGA market reached $128 billion in premium in 2025, a 12-percent increase from 2024, according to Sedgwick. The company also cited projections that the global captive market will grow from $82 billion in 2025 to $120 billion by 2035.

"The industry has shifted. Capacity is increasingly viewed as a commodity, while operational execution has become the true differentiator," Mr. Rogers said. "The organizations that win will be those that can manage risk more effectively, leverage data more strategically, and deliver a better experience for their stakeholders."

Sedgwick said the new operation will provide claims administration and delegated-authority governance for insurers, along with portfolio reporting and specialized support. Its outsourcing services are intended to provide additional claims capacity as volumes fluctuate.

For MGAs and MGUs, the company will provide claims services covering program onboarding, administration, and reporting. Captive insurers and risk retention groups will have access to claims administration, member instructions, board reporting, performance analytics, and services for managing older claims and tail liabilities.

The operation also includes legacy claims services involving migration, project management, technology, and governance. Accident and health services include access to medical networks, claims administration, data capabilities, and straight-through processing.

Sedgwick said its Carrier and Captive Solutions operation includes workers compensation capabilities in all 50 states. The company handles 1.2 million liability claims annually.

Sedgwick also reported that clients fully using its integrated claims, technology, analytics, and risk management services have experienced a 5-percent lower cost per claim, 12-percent higher closure rates, and 46-percent fewer high-severity claims compared with select third-party administrators. The figures cover workers compensation, auto liability, and general liability programs.

"Sedgwick offers a broad range of solutions designed to help [insurers], captives, and MGAs/MGUs manage claims complexity, improve performance, control costs, and support long-term growth," Emily Fink, president of Growth Markets, said. "With the industry's largest team of dedicated professionals, a claims dataset five times larger than that of the nearest competitor, and trusted strategic partnerships with more than 130 [insurers], we can provide a level of depth this market hasn't had before."
