According to the latest newsletter from the South Carolina Captive Insurance Association (SCCIA), the association has named its first recipients of the SCCIA International Center for Captive Insurance Education (ICCIE) Scholarship. Melissa Harkins and Katherine Wood were recognized for demonstrating strong commitment and leadership within the captive insurance sector.

Ms. Harkins serves as assistant general counsel for Indiana University Health and vice president of claims management for IU Health Risk Retention Group. She brings more than 20 years of experience in healthcare risk management, litigation, and captive insurance.

Ms. Wood is a senior account manager for SRS East, where she oversees a portfolio of captive insurance companies across South Carolina, Georgia, and North Carolina. She has over 17 years of accounting experience and has previously worked with Cayman-domiciled captives.

The SCCIA scholarship provides full funding for employees of member companies to pursue either the Associate in Captive Insurance (ACI) or Certificate in Captive Insurance (CCI) designation through ICCIE. According to the association, applications for the 2026 scholarship program will open in January.
