The North Carolina Captive Insurance Association (NCCIA) is ushering in a period of strategic transition with the appointment of Zach Almond as its new president and CEO. Mr. Almond formally assumed the role during the board meeting on September 19 at the Washington Duke Inn, following the leadership of outgoing president Tom Adams.
Mr. Almond has already expressed appreciation for Mr. Adams's leadership, calling attention to the foundation he built during his tenure. Mr. Almond said he looks forward to building on that groundwork and guiding the association into its next phase.
As one of his first initiatives, Mr. Almond has launched the NCCIA Podcast in collaboration with Ron Adams, former NCCIA chair and host of the series. The monthly podcast will feature interviews with key members of the state's captive insurance community, spotlighting individual voices and discussing current issues in the sector. Available through the NCCIA newsletter, LinkedIn, and the organization's website, the podcast is designed to strengthen education, networking, and visibility for the association's members.
Mr. Almond has also begun meeting with Joe Rosenberger of the North Carolina Department of Insurance Captive Division to coordinate efforts between the regulatory agency and the association. Discussions have focused on strengthening collaboration, refining regulatory processes, and reinforcing North Carolina's position as a competitive captive insurance domicile.
The 2026 conference committee has officially launched, bringing in many new members to shape the next phase of NCCIA's flagship event. The 2026 NCCIA Annual Conference is scheduled for August 23–26 at Le Meridien in Charlotte. Planning is underway to develop innovative programming and relevant content tailored to the evolving needs of captive professionals. The board is also exploring venues for the 2027 conference, aiming to identify a location that fosters connection and learning.
The September board meeting will address several strategic initiatives, including a new membership campaign and deeper coordination with regulators. With these efforts underway, NCCIA aims to expand its reach, sharpen its value to members, and align its goals with the evolving needs of the industry.
