NCCIA Board Meeting to Mark Leadership Transition and Discuss Future Conferences
August 27, 2025
The North Carolina Captive Insurance Association (NCCIA) announced that its Board of Directors will convene on September 19 in Durham. The meeting will mark the final board session for Tom Adams, the association's long-serving president and CEO. At its conclusion, Zach Almond of Raleigh and Albemarle will assume the role of president and CEO.
Mr. Almond, who has already begun preparations for the transition, said, "I'm ready to hit the ground running." His early initiatives include launching a regular podcast on timely captive insurance issues and overseeing sponsorship sales for the 2026 Annual Conference, which are nearly sold out.
During Mr. Adams's tenure, both the domicile and the association experienced significant growth. The North Carolina captive domicile advanced from its legislative origins to becoming the third-largest US domicile by number of captives. Association President Lea Riddle said the "NCCIA was fortunate to have someone of Tom's stature in the national association community as our staff leader, and we believe that Zach Almond is the right individual to build on that foundation and lead us to the next level."
In his final address to members during the Annual Conference, Mr. Adams stated that the association is well positioned with a new strategic directions document, updated branding, and a strong financial foundation. He added, "Zach has the tools and support of the leadership he needs to be successful. I'm confident that he will make a great staff leader."
At the September meeting, the board will review several matters, including adoption of the annual budget and potential locations for the 2027 and 2028 Annual Conferences. For the 2026 conference, the board has already approved moving the event from May to August 23–26, 2026, with a revised Sunday–Wednesday format.
Anna Quarum, chair of the Annual Conference Committee, has issued a call for members to volunteer for the committee, which is responsible for developing programming and social events. Ms. Quarum noted that response so far has been strong, but the committee is seeking additional members. "We are looking to change up the conference with new topics, social events, while building on the best of conferences past," she said.
Sponsorships for the 2026 Annual Conference are nearly sold out. Members or organizations interested in sponsorship or exhibitor opportunities are encouraged to contact Mr. Almond at (704) 975–0560.
