Ivans Q2 2026 Index: Commercial Renewal Rates Continue to Ease

Ivans released its Q2 2026 Ivans Index results, reporting that average premium renewal rate changes remained higher year over year across all major commercial lines of business except workers compensation. Compared to Q1 2026, however, average renewal rate changes declined across every major commercial line other than workers compensation, which recorded a slight increase.

Average premium renewal rate change highlights by line of business for Q2 2026 include the following.

  • Commercial auto. Averaged 4.93 percent in Q2, compared to 5.28 percent in Q1. The quarter began at 5.24 percent in April and declined to 4.58 percent in June.
  • Businessowners policy. Averaged 6.16 percent during the quarter, down from 6.74 percent in Q1. April recorded the highest average renewal rate change at 6.43 percent, while June posted the lowest at 5.97 percent.
  • General liability. Averaged 5.44 percent in Q2, compared to 6.85 percent in Q1. The highest average renewal rate change was 5.70 percent in April, while May recorded the lowest at 5.28 percent.
  • Commercial property. Averaged 6.40 percent, down from 6.83 percent in Q1. The quarter reached its highest average renewal rate change in May at 6.71 percent, while April and June both averaged 6.24 percent.
  • Umbrella. Averaged 7.96 percent during Q2 versus 9.36 percent in Q1. April posted the highest average renewal rate change at 8.27 percent, while June declined to 7.60 percent.
  • Workers compensation. Averaged –1.37 percent in Q2, compared to –1.73 percent in Q1. The highest average renewal rate change occurred in May at –1.31 percent, while June recorded the lowest at –1.45 percent.

According to Ivans, commercial insurance renewal rates continued to moderate during the second quarter, reflecting a broader softening trend across most major commercial lines.
