ICCIE Updates Captive Insurance Course Offerings for Late 2026

The International Center for Captive Insurance Education (ICCIE) has several core and elective courses scheduled for the remainder of 2026, providing captive insurance professionals with opportunities to continue their industry education before year-end.

The upcoming schedule includes courses addressing captive investments, reinsurance and risk transfer, business ethics, actuarial concepts, and captive board governance.

Core Courses

Investment Basics for Captives

Registration deadline: October 19
Course begins: October 26

The course covers investment concepts relevant to captive insurance companies, including investment plan design, asset allocation, asset-liability management, investment manager selection, performance measurement, and how investment programs may change during different stages of a captive's lifecycle.

Reinsurance and Other Risk Transfer Mechanisms

Registration deadline: October 22
Course begins: October 29

This course examines the role of reinsurance and other risk transfer mechanisms in captive programs. Topics include different types of reinsurance, regulatory considerations, and facultative and treaty reinsurance agreements.

Business Ethics in the Captive Insurance Industry

Registration deadline: November 24
Course begins: December 1

The course focuses on business ethics within the captive insurance industry and ethical considerations that captive professionals may encounter in their work.

Predicting Risk and an Introduction to Actuarial Science

Registration deadline: November 25
Course begins: December 2

This course introduces participants to actuarial concepts related to risk prediction, ratemaking, and financial forecasting. Topics include estimating ultimate losses, evaluating results, using historical loss experience to project future costs, building loss triangles, and developing financial projections.

Two other core courses, Forming and Operating a Captive and Understanding Risk and Risk Retention Mechanisms, are currently full for fall 2026. ICCIE's course catalog indicates that both will be offered again in spring 2027.

Elective Courses

Captive Board Governance

Registration deadline: November 26
Course begins: December 3

This elective examines governance from the perspective of a captive's board of directors. Topics include directors' duties and responsibilities, board structure and committees, independent directors, oversight activities, and governance considerations for captive insurance companies and risk retention groups.

ICCIE also offers additional elective courses, as well as educational options from other approved providers. Availability and scheduling vary by course.
