Gallagher Re has launched a dedicated captives risk transfer team within its global facultative practice, expanding its capabilities for captive insurance companies seeking tailored reinsurance and structured risk transfer solutions.

The new team will focus on providing facultative and structured reinsurance for single-parent captives across a wide range of sizes and complexities. Its aim is to help captive owners strengthen their risk transfer strategies by using Gallagher Re's analytics and structuring expertise across North American and international markets.

Martin Hughes will lead the team as executive vice president, captives, effective January 1, 2026. He previously led the specialty risk transfer division at Artex Risk Solutions for 5 years, where he worked in partnership with Gallagher Re to deliver reinsurance-based solutions for captive clients in North America. Earlier in his career, Mr. Hughes held roles at SPARTA Insurance and Discover Re, focusing on alternative risk.

Joshua Cryer has also joined the team as divisional director, captives. He most recently served as director of client solutions at Intangic and has held senior roles at WTW, Virgin Atlantic, and THG, bringing a diverse background in insurance and corporate risk.

The new captives team will operate within Gallagher Re's global facultative platform and collaborate with colleagues across treaty, Artex, and the company's retail and specialty businesses to provide integrated reinsurance solutions.

"The new team will connect captive owners with both traditional and alternative sources of global capital, unlocking opportunities beyond the reach of most captives," Pablo Muñoz, CEO of facultative at Gallagher Re, said.

"Martin and Josh bring deep expertise in risk management, insurance strategy, and captive solutions. They will work closely with colleagues across Gallagher Re Treaty, Artex, GGB Retail, and GGB Specialty to deliver innovative solutions for our clients," Mr. Muñoz said.
