The 831(b) Institute is celebrating its third anniversary on National Insurance Day, marking 3 years of educational and advocacy efforts focused on the 831(b) micro-captive insurance industry.

Founded in 2023, the organization was established to educate business owners and industry professionals about 831(b) micro-captives and their role in helping small and midsize businesses manage unforeseen risks. The anniversary coincides with National Insurance Day, highlighting the role insurance plays in helping businesses manage risk, protect operations, and plan for the future.

"As we mark our third anniversary on National Insurance Day, we are proud of the progress the Institute has made in advancing education and advocacy around 831(b) micro-captive insurance. This milestone reflects the growing need for risk management education and the importance of helping business owners better understand the tools available to protect their businesses, and we are excited for the work ahead," Dustin Carlson, president of the 831(b) Institute, said.

Over the past 3 years, the Institute has focused on expanding educational resources and advocacy initiatives for the micro-captive insurance sector. According to the organization, it has developed and maintained a nationwide grassroots network aimed at supporting and improving micro-captive insurance.

"At a time when the mainstream insurance crisis and growing regulatory uncertainty continue to shape the conversation around micro-captive insurance, the Institute remains committed to advancing advocacy for common-sense reform," Carlson said. "We believe business owners and professionals deserve a reliable plan for addressing fortuitous risks and protecting the future of their businesses, no matter what crisis comes next."
