The National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) has canceled its in-person spring national meeting later this month in Phoenix and instead will hold the meeting in a virtual-only format due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

In a statement, the organization said it took the action "out of an abundance of caution for the safety of our members, guests and staff."

The NAIC said a revised schedule with dates, times, and call-in numbers will be available next week at the organization's website, NAIC.org.

The organization had planned a special session on state responses to COVID-19, which is now tentatively scheduled as a virtual meeting. The public portion of the virtual meeting is set to begin at 11 a.m. (EDT), March 20.

The tentative schedule for the virtual spring meeting also includes the following.

  • Working groups, subgroups, and other meetings will be held via conference calls March 16–31.

  • Task force meetings will be held via conference calls April 1–10.

  • Executive Committee and letter committees will be held via conference calls the week of April 13.

  • EX/Plenary will meet via public conference call on April 20.

"The revised schedule demonstrates our continued commitment to the important work of the NAIC membership during this time of crisis," the NAIC statement said. "The actions already taken by NAIC members are bringing much-needed guidance and relief to the public they protect."
