Amy Funderburk has been appointed as the new general counsel at the North Carolina Department of Insurance (DOI).

Ms. Funderburk has previous experience in various roles within North Carolina state government, including deputy counsel for the Administrative Office of the Courts and Clerk of Court for the NC Supreme Court. Her most recent position was as corporate secretary and senior counsel for the North Carolina State Employees' Credit Union.

In addition to her professional background, Ms. Funderburk served as an adjunct professor at Campbell University's Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law and is the chair of the Foundation Board of the Raleigh Kiwanis Club. She takes over the role from John Hoomani, who was recently appointed as the department's chief operating officer.

"Amy is a highly experienced and dedicated public servant who brings a wealth of knowledge in government to this highly important position," North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey said. "I am very confident that Amy will bring the same level of service and commitment to the department."
