SIIA Latest Industry Group To Cancel Event over COVID-19

Red "Canceled" stamp
March 16, 2020

Another industry gathering has been canceled due to COVID-19 with the Self-Insurance Institute of America, Inc. (SIIA), announcing it has canceled this week's Self-Insured Health Plan Executive Forum.

In announcing it was canceling the event, which was to have been held in Charleston, South Carolina, SIIA said that while it "remained confident in our ability to produce a safe event for attendees," the fast-moving developments around the spread of the novel coronavirus and COVID-19 forced the association's board to cancel the gathering.

The organization acknowledged that the decision could be disruptive for many who were planning to attend the event but explained that "developments have been highly fluid."

The SIIA statement said the group was working through the situation and that it would address issues about its refund/credit policy in follow-up communications soon.

In recent days, COVID-19 has forced the cancellation of events by the Captive Insurance Companies Association, Vermont, and the National Association of Insurance Commissioners.
