Captive Insurance Expert Ben Whitehouse Joins Butler Snow

Captive insurance expert Benjamin Whitehouse has joined Butler Snow's Nashville office where he will practice with the firm's regulatory and business groups. The firm's insurance regulatory team handles major regulatory, compliance, and enforcement issues.

Mr. Whitehouse is a former supervising attorney and assistant general counsel of the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance and also served as an assistant attorney general for the state. 

In his previous role with the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance, he served as the legal adviser to the captive insurance section providing legal advice on the regulation and formation of new captive insurance companies based in Tennessee.

Mr. Whitehouse also worked with local industry groups, venture capital firms, and private industry to promote and encourage the formation of captive insurance companies throughout the state. In addition, he was responsible for drafting legislation, administrative rules, and policy advice on proposed statutory and regulatory changes governing captive insurance companies in Tennessee.

From 2007 to 2013, Mr. Whitehouse was an assistant attorney general for Tennessee where he served as a trial attorney in the law enforcement and special prosecutions division and also served as a judge advocate in the US Navy Judge Advocate General's Corps.
