Oregon Captive Domicile Summary

Oregon State Seal SF

While Oregon is a relatively small captive domicile, the state has enjoyed significant captive growth over the last few years.

At the end of 2019, Oregon had 21 captive insurance companies, which is nearly 2 1/2 times more compared to 2014, when the state had just 8 captives.

Oregon's captive premium volume has risen even more significantly. In 2019, for example, Oregon captives generated just over $754 million in gross written premiums, which is well over four times more than in 2014, when the state's captive insurers reported just under $170 million in gross written premiums.

An important factor in Oregon's captive growth has been the responsive staff at the Oregon Department of Insurance, captive experts say.
