A captive insurance educational forum in Mexico that was postponed because of the COVID-19 outbreak has been rescheduled.

The forum, to which the state of Vermont and the Vermont Captive Insurance Association (VCIA) planned to send a delegation of captive experts, will now be held September 22. The forum was originally set for March 24.

"We are hopeful that things will go forward and we will have an outstanding forum," said Richard Smith, president of the VCIA in Burlington, Vermont, who will speak at the conference.

The forum will be held at the St. Regis Hotel in Mexico City.

Earlier, Vermont captive insurance regulators expressed several goals of the educational forum. One objective, according to Ian Davis, Vermont's director of financial services, is to "increase awareness of Vermont as the leading US domicile for captive insurance and highlight our state's mutually beneficial trade relationship with Mexico."

A wide range of captive insurance experts, including Vermont's top captive regulators, as well as private sector captive insurance executives will speak at the forum.

Topics to be discussed at the forum include selecting a captive insurance domicile, the process of forming a captive, US and Mexico tax implications, Mexico and Vermont regulatory issues, and business plan development.

To register for the conference, which is free, contact Sylvia Montano, a commercial specialist at the US Embassy in Mexico City, at [email protected] with contact information and VCIA in the email subject line.
