February 2, 2016 - With 38 new captive entities licensed in 2015, Montana continues its rise as one of the world's premier captive insurance domiciles and the clear leader in the Western United States.    With last year's numbers now posted, Montana has licensed 191 stand-alone captive insurance companies and 307 total risk-bearing entities.

Additional details released by the Montana State Auditor's office include:

Breakdown of captives licensed in 2015:  32 pure captives, 2 reinsurance captives, and 4 special purpose series LLC core captives.

Breakdown of total stand-along licensed captives: 128 pure captives, 28 reinsurance captives, 9 special purpose captives, 16 risk retention groups, 2 association captives, and 8 protected cell captives.

"These latest numbers clearly demonstrate that Montana is serious about building a world-class captive insurance domicile," said MCIA President John Jones.  "We believe this success has been fostered through a combination of experienced and consistent regulators, supportive legislators, top notch service providers, and a highly effective industry trade association."

The domicile will be further showcased at the MCIA Annual Conference, scheduled for July 19-21, 2016 in beautiful Whitefish, MT, as well as in the next edition of the Montana Domicile Report that will be published in the spring.  More information about the conference and report can be accessed on-line at www.mtcaptives.org, or by calling 866/388-6242.
