What Is Captive Insurance?

Captive insurance is a highly regulated form of self-insurance for large corporations or groups of organizations. This alternative form of risk management is becoming a more practical and popular means through which companies can protect themselves financially while having more control over how they are insured. VCIA, based in Burlington, Vermont, is the largest trade association for captive insurance in the world and was established in 1985. It is the world’s third largest captive insurance domicile.

2017 Conference Highlights

  • Congressman Peter Welch and Governor Phil Scott will address the group on Wednesday, August 9.

  • Keynote speakers Matthew Luhn, of Pixar Animation Studios, and Jamie Brache, of Zurich North America, will each give remarks. Mr. Luhn is an accomplished story creator, animator, and instructor who has created many well-known stories for Pixar, including Toy Story, Finding Nemo, Up, Ratatouille, and more. Mr. Brache will address the group on the subject of risk management related to climate change.

  • Now in its 32nd year, the VCIA Conference features more advanced sessions and innovative learning formats than ever before. Participants are able to receive professional credits for attending.

  • Attendees will be able to connect with peers and key industry players at the networking reception on the Burlington waterfront.

  • Expert speakers from some of the world's most prestigious organizations will be featured.

VCIA is the largest trade association for captive insurance in the world.
