Dan Labrie Joins Editorial Team

Dan Labrie, who recently retired as president and chief executive officer (CEO) of the Housing Authority Insurance Group (HAI Group), has joined the editorial team of and Captive Wire.

He served HAI Group as its vice president of underwriting before assuming the CEO role in 1997. He retired from HAI Group at the end of 2015; his association with and Captive Wire is among his other professional pursuits.

Labrie-Dan-2016For those not familiar with the HAI Group, it evolved following the formation of the Housing Authority Risk Retention Group in 1987. At the time of Mr. Labrie's retirement, HAI Group comprised 13 companies, including two licensed insurance companies, a risk retention group, an excess and surplus insurer, a software company, a professional training company, an insurance agency, a research company, and a captive insurance company providing financial guarantees.

Mr. Labrie's return will be like old home week at He was one of three founders of, and he will share writing responsibilities with the two other founders, John Salisbury and John Foehl. Collectively, the editorial team has over 100 years of experience in captive insurance, group self-insurance, and financial services.

Mr. Labrie also served as chairman of Vermont Captive Insurance Association and Captive Insurance Companies Association and was a founder and board member of International Center for Captive Insurance Education. He currently is chairman of National Risk Retention Association.
