July 26, 2016

The Montana Captive Insurance Association (MCIA) issued its Montana Captive Domicile Report 2015 at its recent annual conference. As shown in the report, Montana's captive industry started 15 years ago and the state's captive insurer count is now 191.

In 2015, the commissioner of securities and insurance licensed 38 captives, according to the report. The premiums written by the captives produced more than $1.68 million in 2015, the report shows. This source of revenue and economic impact are particularly important in a state with slightly more than 1 million in population.

The 2015 Domicile Report includes a listing of each of the Montana licensed captives. The procedures for forming a captive and the captive insurer requirements are also outlined in the report.

The Montana Commissioner of Securities and Insurance (CSI) Captive Insurance Program staff is an experienced regulatory team led by Steve Matthews, captive coordinator.
