Captive Insurance Leader in Connecticut To Serve as SOBC General Counsel

New Position
January 28, 2016

Thomas F.X. Hodson has accepted a position as general counsel for New Jersey-based SOBC Corp.

SOBC has a licensed Connecticut-based sponsored cell captive and provides risk financing, management, and claims services for portfolio transfers of small books of business currently exiting the market.

"Tom has been instrumental in the continued growth of JLT Towner and has helped to develop Connecticut as a respected captive insurance domicile," said Guy Ragosta, JLT Towner chief executive officer and president, as quoted in a JLT Towner press release. "We wish Tom the very best in his new position and look forward to working with him on captive opportunities in the future."

Mr. Hodson, who has been serving as head of JLT Towner Insurance Management's Connecticut office, has deep experience in the insurance industry and has been instrumental in the modernization of Connecticut's captive insurance laws. Previously, he was CEO and president of Charter Risk Management before JLT Towner acquired the firm, and he also served as general counsel for the AIX Group.

He continues to serve as president of the Connecticut Captive Insurance Association.

According to the SOBC Corp. website, SOBC provides consultancy services to (re)insurance entities, particularly those wishing to withdraw from certain lines or classes of business. Its services, including full runoff management, are offered in the United States, Canada, Bermuda, the United Kingdom, and Europe.
