HAI Group Selects New President and CEO

John ThomsonJohn C. Thomson has been selected and has joined HAI Group as president and chief executive officer, effective January 19, 2016, for the following companies: Housing Authority Risk Retention Group, Inc.; Housing Telecommunications, Inc.; Housing Investment Group, Inc.; Public and Affordable Housing Research Corporation; Housing Systems Solutions, Inc.; Housing Specialty Insurance Company, Inc.; and Innovation Housing Insurance Company, Inc. He joins HAI Group from his recent position as deputy commissioner and chief fiscal officer for the Connecticut Insurance Department. 

Dan Labrie is retiring as HAI Group president and chief executive officer and is assisting in the transition. He joined HAI Group as vice president of underwriting in 1988 and was selected as its president and CEO in 1997. He was one of the original founders of

Mr. Thomson is a graduate of State University of New York, and he holds an M.B.A. in finance and management from Rider University. He brings 40 years of experience in a variety of insurance settings and executive responsibilities. 

Mr. Thomson is well known in the captive community, having served as the director of captive insurance for Connecticut, where he implemented the statute that allowed the formation of captives in the state of Connecticut. His background also includes additional insurance industry experience as chief operations officer of Oil Casualty Insurance Ltd., and he is a former editor of Captive Insurance Company Reports, published by International Risk Management Institute, Inc., which now publishes  

Mark Wilson, chief operating officer and treasurer of HAI Group since 2000, will remain chief executive officer of Housing Authority Property Insurance, A Mutual Company; Housing Enterprise Insurance Company, Inc.; and Housing Insurance Services, Inc. Mr. Thomson and Mr. Wilson will be working closely together to ensure that HAI Group continues to remain a leader in products and services for its members in the public and affordable housing industries. 

Mr. Thomson, in expressing that he is looking forward to serving with HAI Group, said,  "I love the organization, its history, and mission."
