CICA Board Chair Reelected

Scott Beckman was reelected chair of the Board of Directors of the Captive Insurance Companies Association (CICA) during the CICA’s International Conference this week in Orlando, Florida.

Mr. Beckman is vice president of claims of ISMIE Mutual Insurance Company in Chicago, Illinois, which is Illinois’s largest medical liability insurer. Prior to that, he was vice president of risk management and insurance for Advocate Health Care Network. He was honored as the 2008 “Risk Manager of the Year” by Business Insurance.

Mr. Beckman is a member of numerous insurance and risk management organizations and is a frequent speaker at insurance events. He is also a lecturer for health law courses at Loyola University School of Law and legal/healthcare courses at Rush University.

In addition to Mr. Beckman, the CICA Board of Directors elected Michael Bemi as vice chair of the CICA Board. Mr. Bemi is president and CEO of the National Catholic Risk Retention Group, Inc., and is president of its wholly owned subsidiary management company, National Catholic Services, LLC, in Lisle, Illinois. Joel Chansky, a consulting actuary and a principal with the Boston office of Milliman, was elected as secretary/treasurer.

Fredrik Finnman, Steven M. McElhiney, and Robert H. “Skip” Myers were elected to the CICA Board of Directors. Mr. Finnman is group risk and insurance manager for ASSA ABLOY, a multinational leader in door opening solutions headquartered in Sweden. Mr. McElhiney is president of EWI Re, Inc., chief risk officer for Contran Corporation, and president of Tall Pines Insurance Company of Vermont, Contran Corporation’s captive insurance company. Mr. Myers is the managing partner of the Washington, DC, office of Morris Manning & Martin, LLP, and is co-chair of the Insurance and Reinsurance Practice.

CICA is an international association for the captive insurance industry and was founded in 1972 by professional risk managers. CICA represents hundreds of captive insurance companies, risk retention groups, and related organizations from more than 30 jurisdictions throughout the world.
