OUR INSURANCE AND CAPTIVE PRACTICE

Company Information

Our Firm
Kerr, Russell and Weber, PLC (KRW) is a diversified medium-sized law firm.  We offer a full portfolio of services to local, regional and national clientele, including corporate, commercial litigation, real estate, taxation, immigration, health care, estate, antitrust, and securities matters.  Formative and transactional work for insurance industry clients has been integral to the firm since at least 1900.

Our Commitment to Captives
Our focus on captive insurance matters can be traced to the mid-1970s.  We represent many onshore and offshore programs (including RRGs and RPGs) as US counsel. We provide all related legal services supporting formative, governance, taxation, board and committee operations, agency relations, reinsurance, contracting, licensure, and other typical captive insurance needs.  Our extensive commercial trial practice serves a wide variety of our insured clients' interests, including coverage litigation, mediation, and dispute resolution services.

Our Efficiency and Expertise
KRW’s moderate size, substantial insurance experience, central US location, and array of specialties guarantee efficient services.  Project fees and timeliness make us strong competitors to larger firms.  Fair hourly rates, controlled overhead, and experience with a variety of insureds who participate in captive programs make KRW a particularly valuable resource for middle and upper market captive clients.

Our diverse clientele and national presence
KRW's national clients participating in single parent and heterogeneous or homogeneous group captives include: trucking and transportation, aviation, auto dealers, fast food franchisees, nursing homes, hospitals and health systems, physicians and other professionals, livery and taxi companies, moving and shipping companies, national retail grocery chains, purchasing cooperatives, construction and construction management interests, artisan contractors, agricultural groups, small manufacturers, third-party administrators, insurance agents and brokers, banking institutions, managed care specialists, and food supplement manufacturing and marketing.  References are gladly provided.

Professional Ratings
  • KRW has been consistently rated AV (very high) as a firm by Martindale-Hubbell, the recognized rating authority for law firms.

  • KRW attorneys have been peer elected to honorary legal societies.  Please see our website for further information.

  • Several KRW attorneys are certified public accountants who provide valuable advice on US taxation questions for our captive clients.

Alternative
Insurance
Products and
Services

We regard each project as a long-term business opportunity.  Our role is generally that of US counsel to on and offshore captives, risk retention groups and purchasing groups.  We routinely interface with stateside and island managers and other professionals, such as with bankers, agents, and brokers.  We welcome any opportunity to provide formative guidance toward assuring that captive programs match client goals.  We welcome budgets and streamlined reporting to enhance cost effectiveness.  Our early involvement allows any captive project to progress and operate more efficiently.  We can also assemble teams of professionals, managers, brokers, investment managers, and agents to initiate or reconfigure captives.
