By John Salisbury
President, Captive.com, LLC

A brief introduction to a timely white paper written by Advanced Risk Systems entitled
The Use of Online Technology by the Public Entity Pooling Industry

The captive industry includes a substantial number of public sector alternative risk transfer organizations called group self-insurance "pools". A number of these pools have extensive risk management service programs.

A newly-released white paper on "The Use of Online Technology by Public Entity Pooling Industry" highlights seven key lessons that may assist other group captives that are considering the use of on-line technology:

  1. Risk Pools Report Widespread and Increasing Us of Online Services
  2. Online Servves are Highly Valued by Risk Pool Executives
  3. Pool Executives Expect Online Services Will Help Maintain Pool Membership, Reduce Pool Operation Costs and Reduce Claims
  4. Pool Members Demand more Online Services
  5. Use of Online Services by Pool Members is Expanding
  6. Staffing Constraints Currently Limit Traditional Services Offferred to Pool Members
  7. Pool Executives Rate General Safety, Employment Practices, and Driving Safety as Most Importan Online Training Topics

Staylor-Made Communications, an independent West Coast consulting firm, was retained by Advanced Risk Systems to conduct the survey that led to the results spelled out in the white paper, where you will find the full survey results.

Advance Risk Systems is a provider of online training for self-insurance organizations.

Let us know if you would like to see captive.com offer online training for the captive industry. This option would be a fee-based service, and we would try to convince as many states as possible to offer continuing education credits for our courses.
