Vermont's Captive Industry Proceeds as the State Recovers from Irene
August 31, 2011
In what has been called the worst flooding since 1927, Vermonters are now busy cleaning up and repairing the damage in the aftermath of Hurricane Irene this past weekend.
We would like to thank you for your many emails and calls of concern. We are glad to report that we are all doing well and are back at work. State offices were closed on Monday in an effort to help keep roadways clear for cleanup efforts but things are back to business for Vermont’s captive Industry. The Captive Insurance Division is currently reviewing several applications and hopes to issue a new license or two before the Labor Day holiday.
Natural disasters like Hurricane Irene remind us of how important it is to protect our documents and files. Vermont has arguably the most digital office of any captive domicile. If you have visited the department in the past few years you might wonder where all the file cabinets are located. Since 2008, all documents submitted to the State are digitally scanned and recorded. Documents are kept off-site and back-up records are saved and backed-up on multiple secure servers. Continuity of Operations plans are in place in the event of a catastrophic event that destroys our offices.
Some of you have asked how you can help. If you are interested in helping victims of the statewide flooding you can donate to the American Red Cross.
Again, thank you for all of your messages of concern.
With best wishes,
Dan, Dave and Sandy
