Arizona Captive Insurance Association Phoenix, AZ – June 16, 2009 Phoenix, AZ – June 16, 2009 - At its 6th Annual Conference, held at the InterContinental Montelucia Resort in Paradise Valley, AZ, members of Arizona Captive Insurance Association (AzCIA) held their Annual Membership Meeting and Election electing Paul Deeley of Albert Heeg Investment Management to the 2009-2010 Board of Directors. Mr. Deeley had been serving on the board through an interim board appointment, replacing a board member who resigned during the year. As a result of the election, he will be serving on the board for another three-year term. Following the Annual Meeting, the Board elected its 2009-2010 Officers as follows: President – Christopher S. Midwest Insurance Group, Inc., RRG The highlight of the Annual Meeting was the presentation of the AzCIA Crystal Cactus Award to Charles R. Cohen, Esq. Mr. Cohen served as Arizona’s Director of Insurance from 1998 to 2003 under two successive gubernatorial appointments. It was during his administration that Arizona’s captive-enabling legislation was passed and a successful captive insurance program was established at the Department. He currently is a partner in the Barger & Wolen law firm in its Phoenix office, serves on the AzCIA Board of Directors, and chairs the association’s Government Affairs Committee. AzCIA’s 6th Annual Conference attracted 140 registrants from all over the country, as well as many Arizona-based captive industry professionals. Arizona’s current Director of Insurance Christina Urias played a prominent role in the conference and educational sessions.
