A.M. Best Releases Interactive 2008 World Catastrophe Map Online CONTACT:
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE OLDWICK, N.J., June 2, 2009—The A.M. Best Co.,. has introduced an interactive world catastrophe map of 2008’s top insured loss events at www.bestreview.com. The year was marked by extreme weather events that predominantly plagued North America and Asia. The number one event of 2008 was Hurricane Ike, which likely will cost insurers well more than $10 billion. In all, insurance companies paid over $50 billion in losses. Click on the World Catastrophes Map button at the Best’s Review Web site to find out more. The world map contains the top 20 events costliest to
insurers. Each event is accompanied by a video that further describes
the event, using video footage and photographs. In addition, links to
closer regional maps are available, where events that did not make the
top 20 can be found. Finally, a look at risky hot spots are pinpointed, showing places in the world where events such as earthquakes, pirate attacks, wildfires and much more have historically or recently occurred.
